Well, the results are in...

After an initial selection based on length and other guidelines
dropped our 109 registered teams down to 43 (or so) movies ranked out
of 5 points in 5 areas, we selected the regional finalists - and two
wild cards. A total of 29 great movies were screened in regional
finals over the weekend, and our regional judges picked one in each
category, in each final to be the top 9 movies.

So here are the nine finalists. We wish you all the best, now it's
up to our team of 5 judges <http://MovieFest.org.nz/06/judges> to
pick which 3 movies take out the honours...

Panavision (New Zealand) Ltd are our major sponsor this year and they
will be providing a prize package of video equipment valued at $1000
for each of the three categories. The two runners up in each category
will also receive prizes courtesy of the Apple Division of
Renaissance Ltd and Imaging Technology.

There will be a Grand Prize for the best overall movie, taking regard
to the age and experience of the creators. This prize will entail a
day trip to Miramar in Wellington for a tour of a number of the
facilities owned by the organisations that made the Lord of the Rings
and King Kong movies. Free air tickets for two people to Wellington
and return will be provided, sadly not by Origin Pacific.

If you missed seeing the movies on a big screen near you, then there
are still a few more chances. Nelson and Napier will be holding
screenings shortly, and then there is the grand national finals to be
held in Wellington on Saturday 30 September. All the movies entered
will be screened there, and we'll have a full entertaining afternoon
of awards and ceremony - so book your tickets through Ticketec, and
make sure you are there, with your friends, to see it all.

A huge thanks to you all for making my life so great - I love seeing
your movies, so make sure you keep making them! Thanks also to the
MovieFest team: both the other trustees and the org team for making
MovieFest 2006 a great time so far!

Next month we will have most of the regional finalists up for online
viewing, and you can then vote for your favourite - for the overall
viewers choice award.

Thanks again!
